Some people think of St. Vincent de Paul as merely a service organization, but our Conference does not exist simply to serve the poor. Rather, we exist to grow in holiness, humility, and spirituality. Even so, we are not strictly a sprirtual organization, not strictly a social organization, and not strictly a service organization. Instead, we strive to maintain a good balance between all three, like a stable three-legged stool.
For Vincentians, spirituality informs both our service and our friendships, so it constitutes the heart and soul of our Society. Our spiritual advisor, the Very Reverend Robert H. "Hank" Lanik, guides and assists us in this journey.
Our Conference has a regular meetings, which include prayers, readings, and specific topics designed to promote and develop deeper Catholic spirituality.
Our Conference has multiple retreats each year, conducted by Father Gus Tharappel at Wellspring Spirituality Center.
Members periodically attend Mass as a group, especially on Vincentian feast days, including Ozanam Sunday (the last Sunday of April), the feast day of Blessed Frederic Ozanam (September 9), the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul (September 27), and the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the Society (December 8).
Prayer is an integral part of our spirituality; therefore, we have a group prayer before beginning each session in which we serve the people of God.
